Info about the marine debris problem:

By 2050, the ocean will contain more plastics than fish by weight, and Americans use 500million plastic straws every day. Because single-use plastics, like straws, bags, silverware, and cups, are designed to last in perpetuity but are used for just brief moments, plastic pollution continues to accumulate in our oceans at a rate of 8 million tons per year, or a garbage truck every minute. Protecting our oceans from plastic pollution starts with supporting a circular economy in which products are designed to never become waste.
Info about Debris Free Oceans:

Debris Free Oceans (www.debrisfreeoceans.org) is a Miami-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring local communities to responsibly manage the lifecycle of plastics and waste as part of a global initiative to eradicate marine debris. Since its inception in 2014, Debris Free Oceans has removed over 20,000lbs of marine debris from south Florida beaches and reefs, educated over 2,900 students in Miami about how to live a zero-waste lifestyle, and engaged over 2,000 people in lifestyle awareness events, including Debris Free Ocean’s annual eco-fashion show. Debris Free Oceans also provides sustai
nability consulting services to local businesses through its partnership with Miami Is Not Plastic, a community-based initiative to engage Miami's hospitality sector in eliminating single-use plastics.
