Interview with eco-traveller ~ Valeria Hinojosa

We have been following Valeria Hinojosa's  (@waterthruskin) adventures and travels for a long time. We were inspired by her strengths and power to make a difference. To make a change from working a 9-5 job, to changing into a more sustainable, conscious living and eco-friendly lifestyle. I believe many of you, who are reading this, feel the same way. We all want change. We all have a desire for a better and more meaningful life. Vale, who inspired us, has shared a few tips with us on what we can do to be successful and how we all can make a difference!

Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m 29, a conscious lifestyle and travel blogger, and social entrepreneur. I was Private Banker when I started my blog; completely frustrated with the career and life I had chosen, and decided to create a platform where I could put my emotions and thoughts in writing and connect with like-minded individual. Never did I imagine it would get me to where I am today! I’ve been traveling the world for the past two years, reviewing eco- friendly hotels and promoting sustainable brands and non-profits focused on nature-conservation.

You have been to some incredible destinations, what is the favorite place you have visited thus far?

Bali. I’ve been to Thailand, India, Europe, Central America and South America and, until today, nothing compares to Bali. I felt the freest there.

What would you recommend to those who would like to follow your example and be travel bloggers?

Find your passion and chase it. Find your voice and use it! Lose your fears and give it your all. Take risks and see blogging as a career. Not a hobby. The more disciplined you get with your writing skills and posts, the more people will want to follow you and brands work with you.

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would that be and why?

Australia, because of its mesmerizing sceneries and powerful conscious movement. It’s been in the back of my mind for a while now.

What is your beauty advice to those who travel frequently? How do keep that beautiful glow in your skin?

Use (and eat) nature! The fewer chemicals you put on your skin (and into your body), the better! I take my morning green juice and superfoods- even while traveling- and use skin cleansing and makeup brands that are non-toxic, natural, vegan and organic.

What are the products you cannot travel without?

Essential oils, recycled paper notebook, good reading book, agave lip balm, my camera, and my crystal rings.

What is a destination on your bucket list?

Cuba, Morocco, and Iceland are currently on my bucket list.

Do you have a motto you live by?

“Be raw, be you, live fully”. Living my own life, as authentic, raw and fully as possible. As it comes. With all its ups, downs, smiles, tears, surprises and successes. A few years ago I focused my actions and lifestyle choices on pleasing everyone around me to such an extent I completely lost sight of my essence. I entered into a state of depression and denial and didn’t realize that pretending to be someone I was not was nothing more than a slow form of soul-suicide. For the past three years since I started my blog, WaterThruSkin, I’ve lived to this motto, and it guided me to discover my passions: nature, sustainability, travel, yoga, and writing.

What's your fashion style?

Boho-chic and comfy, of course!

If you could give one piece of advice to any inspired blogger - what would that be?

Be authentic! Not afraid to be raw. Live life to the fullest, and speak up for the things that matter.

What's your favorite meditation/relaxation song?

Prayer Wheel by MC Yogi.

Who or what inspires you?

People who are not afraid to be themselves, inspire me the most! Those whose dreams shine out of their pores, and those who are not afraid to share their positive energy with the world.

What would you recommend to those who want to be more conscious about the environment? How should they take the first step to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle?

Perform your research and read labels. Look for earth-friendly alternatives for things you have, and also for ways to transform old items into new ones you actually want to use or wear. Baby steps are they key in pursuing a conscious lifestyle. Small actions we take on a daily basis that end up having a great impact on our lives and everyone else around us. The way you travel is a big part of this too! Supporting sustainable hotels and activities that promote and conserve animal freedom and nature protection is key!
